Breaking News: Lagos state government sealed a construction site in Lekki Phase 1 after a crane accident killed an operator, Rotimi Adesina.

The Lagos State Safety Commission has sealed off a construction site operated by Monterosa Construction Company in Lekki following a fatal crane accident that killed crane operator Rotimi Adesina on Wednesday, July 10, 2025. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the Lekki Phase 1 construction site, and Adesina was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Evercare Hospital.

The commission is still investigating the cause of the incident.
The Lagos State Safety Commission sealed the site and issued an abatement notice to prevent further risk as investigations continue. Monterosa Construction has been directed to submit all relevant documents related to crane operations and site safety for review.
This incident is similar to another workplace tragedy in October 2024, where a worker, Olalekan Oloruntoba, was crushed to death while operating a crane at a Julius Berger construction site in Ijora. The Lagos State Safety Commission sanctioned the construction firm and directed them to meet specific regulatory requirements.

The Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, emphasized that compromising safety is unacceptable and assured that strict enforcement of regulations will continue to prevent future tragedies.

  • Mojola extended condolences to Adesina’s family and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to enforcing safety standards.
