Traditional chiefs in Badagry, Lagos, took action yesterday at Agbalata International Market to enforce a directive aimed at lowering the prices of foodstuffs and goods. The intervention follows the August 28th decision by Aholu Menu Toyi 1, the traditional ruler of Badagry, to dissolve market committees that had been setting prices at the market.

The Akran, represented by Chief Michael Onu-Osekan, the Jengen of Badagry, made the announcement during a meeting with market traders at his palace. Onu-Osekan emphasized that no committee should dictate the prices of goods brought to the market by sellers. The chiefs, acting on the Akran’s instructions, addressed traders at four different venues within the local government to ensure compliance with the new directive.
