The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that the national grid experienced a temporary disturbance earlier today, at approximately 8:15 AM. The disturbance was due to an explosion in the bus section of a current transformer at the 330kV Jebba Transmission Substation.
According to reports from the National Control Centre (NCC), the transformer explosion triggered the protection system at the substation, which automatically opened the busbars. This swift action prevented further damage and a potential fire outbreak, ensuring the safety of adjacent equipment.
While the activation of the protection system caused a brief disruption to the grid, TCN’s engineers at the Jebba station acted swiftly to isolate the faulty transformer. They also reconfigured the busbar arrangement, successfully restoring power supply to the affected areas of the station and stabilizing the national grid.
The incident has been fully resolved, and TCN assures the public that power supply has been restored.
