The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Ajaero, has been summoned by the police for questioning over allegations of treason, terrorism financing, and other severe offenses.
In a notice signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Adamu S. Muazu, Ajaero has been instructed to appear at the IRT Complex in Abuja on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 10:00 am. The police warned that failure to appear could lead to the issuance of an arrest warrant.
This summons follows a recent incident where the NLC claimed that its headquarters in Abuja was raided on August 8. According to the union, heavily armed security forces stormed Labour House, broke in, and seized numerous books and publications from the premises. The officers reportedly stated that they were searching for materials linked to the #EndBadGovernance protests.
In response, police authorities denied that any raid took place at the NLC secretariat, explaining that they were only in the area to apprehend a suspect who had been traced to a building that coincidentally shares a location with the NLC offices.
