The University of Benin (UNIBEN) is preparing to host a landmark series of events for its 49th and 50th Convocation Ceremonies, as well as the institution’s 54th Founders’ Day celebrations. The events, aimed at honouring the achievements of its graduating students and the university’s legacy, will take place from Thursday, 21st November to Saturday, 23rd November 2024, at the Akin Deko Auditorium on the Ugbowo Campus.
Professor Lilian Imuetinyan Salami, the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the University, extended a warm invitation to the public, expressing her enthusiasm for celebrating the accomplishments of the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 graduating sets. The convocation will be held under the distinguished chairmanship of the University’s Chancellor, Professor James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, Tor Tiv.
The schedule for the three-day event is as follows:
• Thursday, 21st November 2024: The celebrations will commence with an Interfaith Service at 9:00 am, followed by the Founders’ Day and Convocation Lecture at 11:00 am.
• Friday, 22nd November 2024: The university will hold the Award of First Degrees and Prizes at 10:00 am.
• Saturday, 23rd November 2024: The final day will feature the Award of Higher Degrees, Diplomas, as well as the conferment of Honourary Degrees and Professor Emeritus titles, beginning at 10:00 am.
The ceremonies are expected to attract dignitaries, alumni, and friends of the institution from across the nation and beyond, marking a significant milestone in the university’s history and the academic journeys of its graduating students.
