CEGA 2025/2026 Visiting Fellowship for African Researchers

The Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA) invites applications from African researchers for its 2025-2026 Visiting Fellowship. This 16-week fellowship offers scholars the opportunity to develop skills in quantitative social science research at University of California, Berkeley (Fall 2025 and Spring 2026) or Northwestern University (Spring 2026).

Fellowship Tracks

Applicants may apply to one of the following tracks:

  1. General Development Research
  2. Early Childhood Development (ECD): Focuses on programs supporting health, nutrition, security, caregiving, and early learning for ages 0-3. Priority given to applicants from Tanzania, Mozambique, and Kenya.
  3. Youth Livelihoods: Focuses on programs helping youth (ages 16-24) find work via education, training, and support, with a focus on Kenya, especially Mombasa.

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must:

  • Be from East or West Africa and fluent in English.
  • Hold a Master’s or PhD degree (or be currently enrolled in a PhD) in a relevant social science field.
  • Hold a staff or student position with a research institution in East or West Africa, with a preference for institutions focused on policy-relevant research.
  • Meet specific requirements if applying to the ECD or Youth Livelihoods tracks.

Fellowship Benefits

Fellows will:

  • Audit coursework and receive mentorship to develop research ideas.
  • Expand their research networks and gain skills in quantitative development research.

Application Process

Submit the following by January 17, 2025, at 5 pm GMT:

  • Personal Statement (1 page)
  • CV/Resume (include relevant quantitative coursework)
  • Research Proposal (2 pages, based on provided template)
  • Evidence of Leave Approval or Letter of Support from a supervisor or department chair
  • Two References (name, email, phone, and affiliation)
