The University of Ottawa has introduced the Entrance & Excellence Scholarships, a new initiative designed to support African students seeking to pursue higher education in Canada. This scholarship program offers eligible students a four-year award, helping to significantly reduce the cost of tuition and ease financial pressures.
About the Scholarships
These scholarships are open to international students from African countries who plan to start their studies in Fall 2024 (beginning in September). The program offers considerable tuition reductions:
- Excellence Scholarships provide between $17,500 and $25,000 per year.
- Entrance Scholarships offer $12,000 to $20,000 per year depending on the program chosen.

- Faculty of Health Sciences
- Excellence Scholarship: $17,500 per year (total $70,000)
- Entrance Scholarship: $10,000 per year (total $40,000)
- Faculty of Science
- Excellence Scholarship: $17,500 per year (total $70,000)
- Entrance Scholarship: $10,000 per year (total $40,000)
- Faculty of Social Sciences
- Excellence Scholarship: $17,500 per year (total $70,000)
- Entrance Scholarship: $10,000 per year (total $40,000)
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be citizens of any African country.
- Be newly admitted for Fall 2024 or later in an eligible undergraduate program offered in English.
- Not be enrolled in the French immersion stream.
- Hold a valid study permit by the start of classes.
- Be registered as full-time students.
Application Deadline
The deadline to apply is March 1, 2025.

- First the student has to apply here
- Then the University would receive the application and generate a Student Number which the prospective student would use to login to the school’s portal, UOZone, and then submit their results and documents for review.
- After a successful review, they will be offered a conditional admission offer which will include the scholarship depending on their average.
