Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has encouraged Nigerians living abroad to remain resilient and hopeful for a better future despite the ongoing socio-economic challenges in the country.
During a virtual interactive session with Nigerians in the diaspora on Saturday, Abubakar emphasized the critical role they play in shaping Nigeria’s future. His remarks were highlighted in a statement released on Sunday by Prof. Gold Emmanuel, his Senior Special Assistant on Communications & Intelligence and Diaspora.
“I urge you not to give up just yet. Your strength and resilience are crucial to Nigeria’s future,” said Abubakar, noting that the country’s economic hardships have led to increasing poverty levels.
Abubakar urged diaspora Nigerians to continue supporting their families and friends back home, highlighting the importance of their remittances and investments to the Nigerian economy. He also called on the Federal Government to release detained protesters charged with treason, emphasizing that the right to protest is constitutionally protected.
“I advise the government to release these young Nigerians without trial immediately,” he added, urging Nigerians abroad to maintain peaceful and civilized strategies when addressing governmental policy issues.
Abubakar, who was the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, remains optimistic about Nigeria’s potential, encouraging continuous support and positive representation of the country on the global stage.
