DISCOVERY: Planet Made Of Diamonds

Show us some love, share our story!

Scientists have discovered that there is a planet named 55 Cancri e. Also known as Janssen.

It is an exoplanet orbiting a Sun- like host star, 55 Cancri A. It is located about 40 light-years from Earth.

That is often referred to as a “diamond planet.”

it was discovered on the 30th of August 2004. Making it the first super Earth discovered around a main sequence star.

it is the innermost planet in its planetary system. So it takes less than 18 hours to complete an orbit.

It’s believed to have a carbon-rich composition.

Scientists speculate that a large part of it could be made up of diamond due to the high pressure and temperatures.

The planet is incredibly close to its star. Which means it has a very high surface temperature.

Possibly around 2,400 degrees Celsius (4,352 degrees Fahrenheit).
