The officers of the Lagos State Police command, has fired tear gas to send away protesters that are rallying to mark the fourth year anniversary of the #EndSars protest.

Videos are being seen on Sunday morning, that shows protesters fleeing as the police fires shots.

The protesters who gathered around 8:30am, at Lekki toll gate, were seen with banners and placards.

They call for the full implementation of various reports submitted by various judicial panels of inquiry, set up after the 2020 protests.

In October 20, 2020, thousands of youths gathered in major cities across the country. This is to protest against the constant harassment, killings, and extortion.

That is being done by officers of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, a unit of the Nigerian police.

The protest reached it’s pinnacle at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos. Where several youths were reportedly killed and many injured, due to the intervention of the Nigerian military.

Judicial panels were then established across various states, to access and review the protesters demands, after the protest.

However, four years later, protest leaders has expressed deep regrets. According to them, many of the panels recommendation has remained unimplemented.

One of the protesters, identified as Excel, said he fell into the gutter and hit his head while running from the teargas fired by the officers.

The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said there was confrontation. But the police had to disperse the protesters to avoid traffic on the Lekki toll gate.

He said, ” they were told to disperse, but they were adamant. We had to use minimal force to disperse them.”
