In a nursing home in Croatia on Monday,July 22, a gunman open fire and killed at least five people, in a rare instance of gun violence in the Balkan country.
The State broadcaster HRT, said an unidentified gunman had entered a nursing home in Daruvar, some 130 kilometres (80 miles) east of Zagreb, and opened fire there.
The HRT said that at least, five people were killed and several others were injured during the shooting. It was also said that the alleged suspect fled but was later arrested by the police.
Croatian newspaper, Jutarnji list, said the alleged shooter is a “war veteran” who killed his mother along with other residents and staff.
Croatia fought a war of independence during the breakup of Yugoslavia from 1991 to 1995, which make shootings in the Balkan country very rare.
Last year in neighbouring Serbia, the country was shaked by back-to-back mass shootings, which also include a massacre at a school in the capital in Belgrade, of which 10 people were killed.
