Four Nigerian students have been sentenced to prison in the United Kingdom for their involvement in a violent street brawl in Leicester City Centre. The incident, which occurred at approximately 3:00 AM GMT on November 4, 2021, involved the use of knives, a baseball bat, and a crutch as weapons.

Destiny Ojo, Joshua Davies-Ero, Ridwanulahi Raheem, and Habib Lawal, all 21 years old, were found guilty of various offences following a six-week trial at Leicester Crown Court. According to Leicestershire Police, an 18-year-old man suffered stab wounds during the altercation and required hospital treatment.

Investigations in the months following the fight included extensive CCTV analysis, phone tracking, and public appeals, which ultimately led to the identification of the suspects. Police confirmed that CCTV footage showed the men, all residents of London, armed with several weapons. Ojo was seen wielding a baseball bat, Davies-Ero carried a crutch, while Lawal and Raheem were both in possession of large knives.

The court handed down the following sentences:

  • Destiny Ojo received seven years in prison for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm, and committing grievous bodily harm with intent.
  • Habib Lawal was sentenced to five years for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm, and committing grievous bodily harm with intent.
  • Ridwanulahi Raheem was given a three-year sentence for violent disorder and possession of a bladed article.

Another individual linked to the case, identified as Asamoah, had earlier pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article. He is set to be sentenced on Friday.

The incident underscores the grave consequences of violent behaviour, with the authorities reiterating their commitment to tackling such crimes through rigorous investigations and prosecutions.
