Fuel Price: “You Betrayed Nigerians First” CDDN Tells NLC

The citizens of the Democratic Dividend of Nigeria, has faulted the claims by the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, on Wednesday, September 4th.

This was because the NLC, said that the Federal Government betrayed their trust by increasing the fuel price. Despite the agreement of the new minimum wage of N70,000. Which was way below the initial proposal of the organised labour.

In a statement signed by Ahmed Idris, the Executive Director of the group. He noted that the NLC betrayed Nigerians first, by accepting the new minimum wage of N70,000. And turning a blind eye to millions of Nigerians suffering.

The group also noted that Joe Ajaero- led NLC, also did not participate in the #EndBadGovernance protests. Which also took place nationwide.

However, Ajaero, in a statement on Tuesday, September 3rd, had accused the President Bola Tinubu. That he betrayed the union. This is due to the recent hike in fuel prices.

The NLC also recalled that the reason why the N70,000 was being accepted was because they were assured that the fuel price won’t increase.

The Congress accused the Government of going back on it words and implementing ferocious right wing market policies. And that the government has brought Nigerians to their all time low.

However, the group said in their statement that, “CDDN recalls that NLC and Ajaero openly recently betrayed the Nigerian people when they were desperate for their salary increase without taking cognisance of the plight of millions of ordinary people.”

“Ajaero’s sudden outcry, after months of inaction, is not only sad but also a testament to his disregard for the true interests of the Nigerian people.”

“When Nigerians were facing unbearable hardship and called for nationwide protests, Ajaero and the NLC turned a blind eye. They refused to participate in the protests, prioritizing their minimum wage agreement over the suffering of millions of Nigerians.”

“Now, faced with accusations of treason and alleged involvement in a plot to overthrow the government, Ajaero seeks to drag the NLC and the Nigerian people into his personal legal battles. This is a clear attempt to use the labour movement as a shield to escape justice.”
