The Nigerian Government, Under the administration of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Had expanded the distribution of Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, conversion kits nationwide, via the Presidential CNG Initiative, (P-CNG).
This comes in after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, starts to lift petrol from the Dangote refinery.
However, Dangote is to sell its product to NNPCL, between the rate of N960 and N980 per litre. While NNPCL will sell it to final consumers for the rate of N857 and N865 per litre.
Meanwhile, the CNG kits are intended to hasten the conversion by commercial and private vehicle owners to achieve the target of a new automotive fuel transition.
The representative of the P-CNGi, Moses Onate, disclosed at the NIPCO facility in Ogun State. He said that about 1,000 kits are being moved to Abuja, Kaduna, Oyo, and Lagos States.
This is to follow the government’s intervention to make them available for vehicle conversion.
Nwaodu Austin Chinedu, an Engineer at NIPCO, said the company’s warehouse is stocked and that, the distribution will be smooth nationwide.
However, it was said that by switching to CNG, Nigeria is embracing a cleaner, cheaper, and more sustainable fuel alternative. This will benefit the environment, as well as the economy.
It is said that the government aims to distribute one million conversion kits, by the end of 2025. So as to ensure that the country’s commercial transport sector is fully equipped and ready to adopt CNG.
This will enable them to stop being dependent on Petrol and Diesel.
The P-CNG launches the compressed Natural Gas, CNG, to be N230 per litre. This initiative is designed to provide Nigerians with more affordable and sustainable alternative aside from Petrol and Diesel.
