Gov Abba Yusuf, Kano State Governor Backs Up Protest

Governor Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano State. Has thrown his weight behind the protest over the heightened cost of living crisis under President Bola Tinubu’s watch. He added that he is ready to join the protests because it is the democratic right of citizens.

Mr Yusuf backed the nationwide protest during a stakeholders meeting in Kano Government House on Wednesday, July 31.

He said: “For us, protest is a democratic right of every citizen. I want the protesters to carry out their procession with caution. This is because some criminal elements plan to hijack the protest.”

“If you embark on a peaceful procession, I will receive you. And if you wish, I’ll join you. “ Governor Yusuf made this statement on the eve of the nationwide protests over economic hardships under President Tinubu’s government.

Though President Tinubu’s government has appealed that the protest should not be held. Nigerians have vowed to hit the streets across the country to vent their displeasure over the prevailing cost of living crisis.

The governor’s support for the protest comes in amid growing concerns over the role of security agencies in handling the civil unrest. Governor Yusuf expressed his issues with the Nigeria Police Force. And he accused them of insubordination and also, failure to follow directives of the state government.

He said: “I can’t understand why the security agencies, especially the police, will not obey our orders.” “When we tell them to do this or that, they will tell us they received an order from ‘above.’ Who is the ‘above’? I am the chief security officer in the state. If you have a problem with that, go and change the Nigerian constitution.”

Muhammadu Sanusi II, The 16th Emir of Kano. Has also implore the government to take bold steps to alleviate the economic difficulties faced by the people. During a meeting, the Emir said: “We must find proper ways to help the needy and ensure that what is given to them reaches them.”

The upcoming protest has ignited debates among various groups. While some supports the action as a means to address the country’s economic challenges. Others are advocating dialogue, to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
