A chemist operator, Manniru Mai, from Jaba in Fanisau, Unogo Local Government Area of Kano State, has been accused of r@ping a 9-year-old girl, Rumaisa Sadiq, leading to her tragic death.

The incident reportedly occurred after Rumaisa’s father took her to Manniru’s chemist shop for malaria treatment. Instead of providing care, the chemist allegedly assaulted the young girl, resulting in her death.

The Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Disabled, and Children, Hajiya Aisha Lawan Saji Rano, confirmed the heartbreaking death and promised that justice will be served.

In a statement through her Director of Public Enlightenment, Aishatu Haruna, the Commissioner emphasized that despite attempts to divert the case, the state government, led by Governor Abba Yusuf, is committed to ensuring justice for Rumaisa and her family.

“There must be justice for the little girl who lost her life because someone acted with cruelty,” the Commissioner said during a condolence visit to the family. She stressed that swift justice is necessary to prevent such incidents from happening again.

Hajiya Nafisa Salisu Ahmad, the founder of the Hidayah Ahmad VVF Aid Foundation, brought the case to the Commissioner’s attention and confirmed that it is already in court, drawing concern from various human rights organizations.

Rumaisa’s father, Alhaji Sadiq, expressed his gratitude for the government’s support and efforts to pursue justice. Her mother, still in shock from the tragedy, also thanked the Commissioner and the Governor for their continued efforts to ensure the family receives justice.
