A Kano State Mobile Court has ordered the remand of 632 individuals who participated in the End Bad Governance protest, citing their alleged involvement in the vandalization of public and government properties. The defendants face multiple charges, including criminal conspiracy, theft, unlawful assembly, inciting disturbance, trespass, and mischief by fire.
State Director of Public Prosecution, Salisu Tahir, presented the case before the court, stating that the alleged offenses occurred during the nationwide protest on August 1st. Tahir asserted that the defendants trespassed and damaged government and public properties, further accusing them of breaking into shops and looting goods.
“The defendants broke into people’s shops and looted their goods,” Tahir informed the court, adding that their actions violated sections 97, 287, 229, 336, 349, and 247 of the Penal Code.
In court, the defendants presented mixed pleas, with some admitting guilt while others maintained their innocence. Following the remand order, the court, overseen by three Senior Judicial officials, adjourned the proceedings until August 19th for a further hearing.
