The Communications Internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience by contributing to a variety of projects within the Communications team at the MacArthur Foundation. The role involves supporting both short-term tasks and long-term initiatives that align with the Foundation’s mission to enhance the impact of its work and that of its grantees.
The Communications team works collaboratively with program staff and other departments to develop and implement strategies aimed at engaging the press, public, and policymakers. This includes managing media relations, online and social media activities, printed publications, and events. Additionally, the team provides guidance and support for MacArthur’s leadership, staff, and grantees in their communication efforts.
This internship is structured to offer a rich, educational experience. Interns will participate in team meetings, organization-wide events, and briefings by grantees and experts in various fields. Instead of concentrating on a single social issue, interns will work across the Foundation’s diverse portfolio, gaining a broad understanding of how strategic communications drive social change.
Key Benefits and Responsibilities

- Developing stories and creating multimedia content to showcase MacArthur’s work.
- Assisting with organizing and supporting internal and external meetings and events.

- Contributing to team discussions on communications strategies and innovative approaches.
- Undertaking additional projects based on team needs and the intern’s interests.

- A strong interest in communications, journalism, public relations, digital media, or public affairs.
