The secretary-General of the CVCNU, Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Professor Yakubu Ochefu, has stated that the committee might have to share the burden of the escalating costs of electricity with the students, with intention of charging students N80,000 each.

The NANS has frowned against this new development, recently in an interview the NANS president, Lucky Emonefe, rejects the idea of forcing the bills of electricity on the students.

He said, “The electricity tariff hike is one of the issues we are engaging the government on. It is not the fault of the Vice Chancellors, but we agree that the government should remove our institutions from Band A and place them in Band B. No Nigerian student will pay that N80,000; we will reject it.”

He established the commitment of the student national body, in resisting any form of attempt to increase the electricity tariffs for student across the country.
