The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 25 protesters. This is following the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest on Thursday, August 1.
However, the state government has denied the imposition of a 24-hour-curfew. That was imposed in the state
PALNDO reports that the protests had began peacefully. This is around the popular NEPA roundabout in the metropolis. But had turned violent as the protesters. Had attempted to force themselves into the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House.
However, the protesters vandalised government properties. Which includes the office of the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency. This is along the Sokoto Road in the heart of the state.
Part of the office was burnt. And some furnitures, as well as, some property in the office were carted away by the protesters.
The Chief of Staff to the governor, Sani Kila, who visited the scene, noted the governor did not impose a 24-hour curfew as reported in some media.
He said: “We have gone round the state and all is calm. There is no curfew as reported by some media.”
The Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, ASP, said those arrested had attempted to hijack a peaceful protest
He said: “However, some elements within the group defied this directive and turned violent, attempting to breach the Government House and damaging a police armoured vehicle.”
The PPRO warned that the command would not tolerate any form of destructive or violent protest. And those arrested would face the full force of the law.
He reaffirmed the police commitment to protecting its citizens rights to peaceful assembly while also ensuring public safety and security.
