Protesters at Eagles Square in Abuja, had rejected Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of State for Youth Development. This was when he was attempting to address the protesters. But they were chanting”hunger dey” and drowned out his voice.
However, Olawande was able to calm the crowd. He assured them that he was not there to suppress the protest. But to cite his own experience of him participating in numerous demonstrations.
He said: “I’m not here to fight you or stop your protest; it’s your right.”
He also promised to address the police regarding their use of canisters against the protesters.
Despite Olawande’s efforts to persuade them, the protesters refused to relocate to the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, citing a recent parallel protest that occurred without police interference.
