The Nigerian Army has announced the successful dislodgement and destruction of a terrorist camp belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
According to a post on the army’s official X handle on Saturday, the operation took place early in the day within the Ezere Forest of Umuawa Aku, located in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo.
The mission also extended into the Akawa Nnneato and Lomara communities in the Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia, resulting in the seizure of a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and various other items.
Acting on actionable intelligence about the harassment and intimidation of local residents by terrorist elements, the troops quickly mobilized to neutralize the threat.
Upon arrival, the troops engaged in a fierce gunfight with the terrorists, successfully dislodging them from their camp. The soldiers then pursued the fleeing terrorists, forcing them to abandon a substantial cache of weapons.
Recovered items include one GPMG, assorted rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles, and two communication radios.
The army emphasized its commitment to dismantling any threats to community safety, highlighting the significance of this operation in protecting civilians and combating terrorism.
“This operation underscores our resolve to restore and maintain order in the affected areas,” the army stated, noting that the disruption of the terrorist group’s activities sends a strong message about their dedication to ensuring the safety of the communities.
