Ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024, the Ondo State government has declared Friday, November 15, a work-free day for all public servants. The move is intended to allow government employees to travel to their respective communities and participate in the election process.
This announcement was made in a press release signed by O. F. Ayodele, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Service. Ayodele urged all accounting officers to ensure that the information is communicated across ministries, departments, and agencies.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will oversee the election, in which 17 political parties are fielding candidates. Incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is seeking a full term, adding further significance to what is expected to be a highly competitive race.
By granting a work-free day, the state government aims to encourage broad participation, ensuring that public servants can travel to their hometowns, cast their votes, and actively engage in this democratic process.
