One of Nigeria’s prospect at the ongoing Paris Olympics, Favour Ofili would not be participating in the women’s 100m athletics event of which she had looked forward to.
Ofili called for accountability from those responsible. And she voiced her skepticism about the trustworthiness of both organisations. The LSU Track and Field alumni hopes to be entered in the 200-metre event.
She blamed the country’s sport’s body. Ofili who was supposed to compete in the 100m and 200m events and was supposed to fly the country’s flag.
Along said with Tima Godbless and Rosemary Chukwuma in the 100m. But according to her, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, and Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, and also the National Anti-Doping Committee (NADC).
Had failed to register her for the event and it cost her the opportunity. So she took to social media to disclose the development on Tuesday night.
She wrote: “It is with great regret that I have just been told I will not be competing in the 100 meters at this Olympic Games. Because I qualified, but those with the AFN and NOC failed to enter my name.”
“I have worked for 4 years to earn this opportunity. But for what? to not be entered and to not compete at the Olympic Games. Because the responsible organization failed to enter me.”
Despite qualifying for the event, Ofili disclosed that the officials did not enter her, marking a repeat of the previous Olympics, Tokyo 2020.
“Please remember that in the last Olympic Games I was not able to compete. Because AFN, NADC and NOC failed to release funds for athletes in the USA to be tested. And it made 14 Nigeria’s athletes that qualified not to compete.”
“now this. And If those responsible are not held accountable for taking this opportunity from me. None of the organization can ever be trusted in the future.”
“Next one is the 200meters and I HOPE I’M ENTERED.”
Athletics events of the Olympics are to commences on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
