Abuja, 22nd July 2024 – Chief Alex Ejesieme (SAN) of Madiba Chambers, representing Mr. Peter Obi, has issued a formal notice to Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Communication and Strategy. This follows the publication of an article titled “REVEALED: Peter Obi’s Supporters Are the People Planning Mayhem in Nigeria,” which claims Mr. Obi’s involvement in organizing nationwide protests and associating with terrorist groups.
The article, circulated via Mr. Onanuga’s verified Twitter handle “@aonanuga1956” and various media platforms, accuses Mr. Obi of attempting to destabilize the government as retribution for his loss in the 2023 presidential elections.
Mr. Obi’s counsel refutes these allegations, calling them false and malicious. They assert that the publication has caused significant embarrassment to Mr. Obi and his family. Consequently, they are demanding an unequivocal retraction of the statements and a compensation of ₦5,000,000,000 (Five Billion Naira) for damages.
Failure to comply with these demands will result in legal action for defamation and libel. The legal notice emphasizes the need to correct the public record and safeguard Mr. Obi’s reputation.
