Reasons Why Former DSS, NIA Bosses Resigned

The reasons behind the sudden resignation of the former Director- General Of the Department States Services, DSS, Yusuf Bichi. And also, the Director- General Of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ahmed Abubakar, has been revealed.

This has shed light on the dissatisfaction within the highest number of Nigeria’s government, due to their agencies performance.

Sources within the presidency had disclosed to Saturday Punch, that President Bola Tinubu, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, raised concerns about the intelligence gathering capabilities of both agencies. Following the two major incidents: the violent nature of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria in several Northern states. Also, the unexpected seizure of three Presidential aircraft in France by the Chinese Company, Zhongshang Fucheng Industrial Investment.

Bichi was reportedly held accountable for the DSS’s failure to provide actionable intelligence that could have prevented the violence that erupted during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria which began on the 1st of August.

The protest, which was sparked by widespread hardship. Escalated into violence in states like Kano, Gombe, Yobe, Bauchi, Borno, Kaduna etc.

Public and private properties were destroyed. Which lead to curfews being imposed in states like, Plateau, Kano, Bauchi.

Meanwhile, Abubakar faced scrutinity over the NIA’s inability to preempt the legal actions taken by the Chinese company that led to seizure of Nigeria’s Presidential Jets in France.

the aircraft, including a newly required Airbus, were seized following a French Court ruling. That was related to a long standing dispute between Zhongshang and the Ogun State Government.

The twin incidents, greatly embarrassed both President Tinubu and NSA Ribadu. Which prompted the leadership changes.

Bichi, a Kano native, was appointed as DSS Director – General on the 14th of September, 2018. By the President Muhammadu Buhari.

Abubakar, from Kastina state, also came into office in January 10, 2018, under Buhari.
