The governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, has announced that the Edo Arena with a 60,000 capacity will be named after Rema.
The governor was joined by Rema, for the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday and laid the first block. Rema is currently in Benin for his homecoming concert at the Ogbe stadium.
The governor said via X(Twitter), “It was a pleasure to have our global music icon @heisrema, join me in performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena. The arena, which will be called ‘Rema’s Dome,’ is located at the former Garrick Memorial School Ground on Ekenhuan Road in Benin City.”
The governor admitted that once the project is completed, it will be used for different events, like concerts, national conferences, symposiums, and other large gatherings.
He also said the arena will attract people to the state, “allowing them to experience our rich culture and what we have to offer, which will create employment opportunities for our youths.”
Rema has been a good ambassador for the city of Benin.
One of his latest songs, ‘Benin Boys’ where he featured Shallipopi is a tribute to this city.
