Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
This is over their failure to account for the over N100 Billion ‘dirty and bad notes’ which were kept in various branches of the CBN. SERAP, in their lawsuit filed last week at the Federal High Court, Lagos, is seeking the court to direct and order the CBN to provide evidence about the N100 Billion dirty notes since 2017.
They’re also seeking to know the whereabouts and account of the following funds as follows;
- The N7.2 Billion meant for the construction of the CBN Dutse branch in (2010).
- The N4.8 Billion for the renovation of the Abeokuta branch (2009).
- The alleged missing outstanding loan of N1.2 Billion granted to the Enugu State government (2015).
- The outstanding loan of N1.9 Billion to the Anambra Government (2015-2016)
And they must publish the names of contractors that were given the projects and those suspected to be responsible for the mismanagement.
SERAP said “We must ensure that they’re brought to justice, and the missing public funds must be fully recovered”
