Sokoto Monarch Who Begged for Help in Video Reported Dead After Abduction by Bandits – Atiku Condemns

The Sokoto community is reeling from the tragic loss of Sarkin Gobir, His Royal Highness Alhaji Isa Bawa, who has been reported dead following his abduction by bandits. The revered monarch, who was seen in a widely circulated video pleading for government intervention, tragically passed away in the hands of his captors.

In the video, the monarch’s desperate appeal for help highlighted the dire security situation in the region. Despite his pleas, the failure to secure his release has underscored the escalating insecurity, leading to widespread grief and outrage.

Former Vice President and PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, responded to the heartbreaking news with a statement shared on his Twitter account. He expressed his deep sorrow and condemned the violence, while also criticizing the government’s ineffective security strategies.

Atiku’s full statement reads:

“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the entire community of Gobir Emirate, and the government of Sokoto State on the tragic loss of their esteemed monarch, Sarkin Gobir, HRH Alhaji Isa Bawa.

The heinous act of violence perpetrated by bandits resulting in the untimely demise of such a revered leader is a stark reminder of the pressing need for enhanced security measures in safeguarding the lives and property of citizens.

The failure of government to show concern or devise effective security strategies has undoubtedly contributed to the escalation of such distressing events in recent times.

It is important to reiterate that the government must provide security that will ensure the protection of lives, such that individuals do not have to live in fear of falling victims to senseless acts of violence.

May the Almighty Allah accept the soul of Alhaji Isa Bawa and grant his bereaved family and people the fortitude to bear his loss. Amin.”

The death of Sarkin Gobir, who had publicly begged for help, has sparked renewed calls for the government to take decisive steps in safeguarding the lives and property of its citizens. Atiku’s statement reflects the growing concern among Nigerians about the deteriorating security situation, as the loss of the monarch continues to resonate throughout Sokoto State and beyond.
